Influence of educational activities about Shantala on the innovation of maternal and child care in a public hospital in Paraíba

Abstract

The study sought to verify the influence of educational activities about Shantala on the innovation of maternal and child care in a public hospital in Paraíba. This is a prospective, quasi-experimental before-and-after study. The population consisted of mothers of children up to 1 year of age, treated in the pediatric inpatient unit. The research took place during the first half of 2023. Data collection occurred in three stages. The SPSS version 20 program was used for data analysis, the results were organized in tables and discussed in relation to the literature in the area. Educational activities were carried out with 10 mothers. Among the most cited benefits after the practice were pain relief and relaxation. Among the participants, only one reported not having performed the massage after the educational activity. Because it is a recent practice, there are still doubts regarding its effectiveness. Therefore, carrying out educational activities about Shantala was able to motivate adherence to new care practices in the hospital environment. Greater dissemination of the technique is necessary, increasingly innovating maternal and child care.
