Abstract

This article reports a case of Amyand's hernia, a rare condition where the vermiform appendix is present within the hernial sac, accompanied by acute appendicitis, aiming to describe the diagnosis and surgical management, as well as discuss its relevance in medical practice. The methodology involved the clinical and surgical analysis of the case, conducted at a reference hospital in Gurupi-TO, where the patient presented with inguinal pain and an irreducible bulge. Although pelvic computed tomography (CT) is commonly used for differential diagnoses, it was not performed due to the urgency of surgical intervention. The results highlighted that intraoperative inspection was crucial for guiding the appropriate procedure, minimizing the risk of postoperative complications. It is concluded that a thorough evaluation and adaptation of surgical management to the specific condition of the appendix were essential for successful treatment, contributing to medical literature on emergency practices involving rare hernias.
