Abstract

The article aims to present the epidemiological situation of hospitalizations for self-harm in Goiás from 2015 to 2019. It is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study, based on secondary data. The number of hospitalizations and deaths notified and confirmed in Goiás on self-harm was used, filed in the SUS Hospital Information System. It was found that the largest number of cases of hospitalizations and / or deaths from self-harm in Goiás are found in the city of Goiânia. The most prevalent cause of hospitalizations was due to cases of voluntary autointoxication by alcohol, while the main cause of death was due to autointoxication due to intentional exposure to other drugs, medications and biological substances and those not specified. There was a strong tendency for the 15-59 age group, being more prevalent in males. Information regarding the color / race variable was not well understood. The data shown represent only a small part of the problem of self-harm. The actual rate of suicide and cases of self-harm are underestimated due to underreporting. It is concluded that the epidemiological survey exposed aims to highlight the information and warn about underreporting, in order to make society aware of the need for mandatory notification.
