Sociodemographic characteristics of elderly who have been death after falling the same level
Abstract
Abstract: The senescence process brings with it a series of physiological changes that affect the effectiveness of the functions of the organic systems of the elderly population, and, with this, the increased risk of falls. In the elderly, falls from a height can have disastrous consequences. Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic characteristics and number of elderly people who died after falling from the same level in the State of Goiás. Methods: Data from the DATASUS Mortality Information System (MIS) in the period from 2011 to 2017, referring to elderly people who died due to falls of the same level, classified with code W01 and W18. The variables analyzed were sex, age, place of death, ethnicity / race and macro-region. Results: The results appointed that the number of deaths higher in females and age equal to or greater than 80, the majority of deaths occurred after hospitalization of the elderly and the increase in the number of deaths was observed after falling from the same level within the period studied. The epidemiological profile of the population affected after falling from the same level allows for a review of government actions and care practices for prevention and care after this event.
