Profile of hospitalizations for craniofacial trauma in Belém, Pará State, Brazil, between 2016 and 2020
Abstract
One of the main causes of death and disability suffered by the world population is violence, and the main location of the injuries is the region of the head and face. Therefore, this study aimed to survey the profile of hospitalizations and the mortality rate due to craniofacial trauma in Belém, State of Pará, Brazil, between 2016 and 2020. Epidemiological-descriptive, retrospective, quantitative study, carried out in the capital Belém Pará, Brazil from 2016 to 2021, through consultation with the databases of the Health Information System, bioestat 5.3 software was used for the analysis. This research aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of care for patients victims of craniofacial fracture, in the city of Belém, State of Pará, between 2016 and 2020. Between January 2016 and December 2020 in the capital Belém do Pará, 2,048 cases of skull fracture and facial bones were recorded, and the highest prevalence of cases of craniofacial trauma were recorded in young adult male individuals with a mortality rate of 0.80 in the age group 40 to 49 years. Thus, recognizing and characterizing patients victimized by external causes and patients with facial trauma is essential for the structuring of health promotion services, including from the prevention of the disease to postoperative follow-ups, aiming to minimize the occurrences and provide the rehabilitation of the individual.
