Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic and transmissible infection whose etiologic agent is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, also known as Koch's bacillus (BK). The disease usually damages the lungs (pulmonary tuberculosis), but it can affect other organs in the body, such as the kidneys, meninges, and bones (extrapulmonary tuberculosis). A retrospective descriptive observational study was carried out, addressing epidemiological data available in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). In the evaluated interval, 3,346 cases of TB were recorded, the most affected age group was among adults between 20 and 49 years old, which is equivalent to about 71.37% of cases, predominantly in males, which corresponded to 72.15%, cases confirmed by laboratory analysis corresponded to 75.52% (2,527 cases), there is a positive opinion regarding the cure of the disease with an index of 86.64% of patients carrying this prognosis. The occurrence of the disease in the city of Rio Branco-AC from 2011 to 2020 was 3346 cases. The challenge of the Unified Health System to reduce the incidence of TB cases over the years analyzed is clear.
