The knowledge of nurses in relation to radiological protection measures
Abstract
Radiation protection corresponds to the prevention of damage associated with high exposure, absorption and accumulation of charges arising from radiation. In hospitals, nursing professionals participate in many radiological procedures, and end up being exposed to radiation, which can lead to future diseases. Therefore, the research aimed to identify the knowledge of nurses, working in a hospital in the south of the state of Tocantins, in relation to radiation protection measures. This is an exploratory descriptive research with a quantitative-qualitative approach, developed with nurses who work in the Adult Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Neonatal Care Unit. Nurses had some knowledge about radiological protection measures and about the types of radiation that exist, however, most professionals did not make correct use of Individual and Collective Protection Equipment, justifying the fact that they did not have contact with the Ray. -X, because protective equipment was not available by the hospital, and when there were in the sectors, they were not enough for the team. Thus, there must be a discipline in the undergraduate Nursing course focused on the area, after all, for radiological care, it is up to the nurse to provide assistance before, during and after the diagnostic examination.
