Abstract

Leprosy is an infectious disease, granulomatous, of slow and chronic evolution, being considered a major public health problem. Developing countries that have non-ideal socioeconomic and health conditions, agglomerations in peripheral areas of cities, prevented the spread of the disease, making its elimination difficult. When there is a late diagnosis or when it is not treated correctly, leprosy can evolve with neurological changes and irreversible physical disabilities. This picture of irreversible changes can be avoided with early diagnosis and adequate treatment. Taking into account the importance of leprosy cases in Brazil, this study aims to outline the epidemiological profile of patients with leprosy in the city of Araguaína-TO, from 2015 to 2022, with a retrospective, descriptive and quantitative approach, using of the DATASUS computerized data system. The profile of involvement in the 962 cases analyzed was mostly of patients with: Male predominance, with incomplete elementary schooling, active economic age group, brown, multibacillary, borderline form, without reactional episodes, with grade 0 of disability at the time of diagnosis and cur. The detection rate classifies the municipality of Araguaína as hyperendemic.
