Sintomas de Depressão em Gestantes Atendidas em Serviços de Atenção Básica de São Luís, MA
Abstract
Introduction: Pregnancy depression is associated with unfavorable outcomes, such as low birth weight and prematurity, besides being a predictive factor for postpartum depression. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of depressive symptoms in pregnant women assisted in primary care services in São Luís, capital of the state of Maranhão. Methods: This was a cross-sectional analytical study with a convenience sample of 60 pregnant women from two primary care centers. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used for symptom tracking and Pearson's Chi-square test was used to assess the occurrence of outcomes with the variables under study, being considered as level of statistical significance (p≤ 0.05). Results: Symptoms were identified in 40% of pregnant women, with statistical significance in the variables marital status, education, family income, age when they started working, hypertension, and smoking. Conclusion: Depression is prevalent among pregnant women with characteristics associated with vulnerabilities, requiring health policies aimed at screening and consequently treating the disorder.
