Immunization of Children in Times of Pandemic

Abstract

Objective: To analyse scientific productions that discuss how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected immunization in children. Method: This is an integrative literature review and a search was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Google Scholar databases.  Results: Of the 14 papers retrieved and selected for the final stage of our study, 5 papers discuss the reduction in immunization of four types of vaccine, such as Pentavalent, BCG, Poliomyelitis, Rotavirus and Hepatitis. A further 7 papers deal directly with vaccination coverage in Brazil, providing negative figures in relation to the reduction in immunization.  It was also found that 1 paper discusses the creation of vaccination protocols in Basic Health Units (BHUs) and at home and, finally, 1 paper discusses the factors responsible for the reduction in immunization in children. Conclusion: An analysis of the selected papers showed that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on vaccination coverage, with a reduction in the immunization of children, resulting in the reappearance of diseases that have been eradicated in Brazil, such as measles
