Identification of reports of violence against the elderly by the agressor in the period of 2020-2023
Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify reports of violence against the elderly by the aggressor in the period from 2020 to 2023. Observational, retrospective, descriptive, quantitative study with analysis of reports of violence registered in the database of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship in 2020 to 2023. The information was treated statistically using the study variables. In the records, 408,395 thousand complaints were detected, 21.6% in 2020, 19.8% in 2021, 23.5% in 2022 and 35.1% in 2023. The southeast region had the highest number of complaints. In relation to the profile of the aggressor, this had a higher number of males aged between 40-49 years and white race/color, complete secondary education, presenting a higher percentage in the period with a monthly income of up to 1 minimum wage. The child was the main aggressor with a high percentage in the relationship suspected of aggression and the elderly victim of violence. It is concluded that it is necessary, based on the results, to prioritize public policies that will reduce the risk of violence against the elderly as well as establish viable ways of subsistence for the family of elderly victims of violence with the economic crisis that many still face after the pandemic period.
