Clinical and epidemiological profile of tuberculosis cases in Maranhão over the last ten years

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the clinical and epidemiological profile of tuberculosis cases in Maranhão over the last ten years. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, descriptive and quantitative study. The data was collected from DATASUS, focusing on the cases notified annually in Maranhão. Variables included gender, schooling, age group (WHO classification of children and adolescents), race/ethnicity, case closure status and clinical form. Data on case closure status was included, which includes information on cure, abandonment, deaths and the clinical forms were also considered for this study. Results: A total of 25,870 cases were notified in the period studied, predominantly males (66.12%), with incomplete primary education (62.27%). Incomplete (62.27%), between 20 and 39 years old (42.81%) and of brown race/ethnicity (71.72%). In addition, 67.81% were cured and 12.32% abandoned treatment, with the pulmonary form having the highest notification rate (90.02%). Therefore, knowing this sociodemographic profile contributes to screening and specific public policies for this public.
