Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) still represents a significant public health issue in Brazil. It is an infectious disease transmitted through the airways, primarily caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, affecting mainly the lungs but also capable of affecting other organs and systems. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of tuberculosis patients in Tocantins between 2014 and 2023. Methodology: This is a descriptive, retrospective, observational study with a quantitative approach, using data from reported cases of tuberculosis in Tocantins available on the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) platform, covering the years 2014 to 2023. Results: During the analyzed period, 2308 cases were diagnosed, with the majority being male (1595 cases), predominantly among individuals aged 20 to 39, of mixed race, and with incomplete elementary education (1st to 4th grade). Final considerations: It is evident the need for new strategies focused on prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of TB cases, thus eliminating the disease transmission cycle.
