Abstract

Menopause means the permanent cessation of menstrual cycles, it is a significant phase that every woman will go through. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of percussive therapy using a massage gun on neck pain in postmenopausal women treated in the public health system in the city of Ipiranga do Piauí - PI. This is a prospective intervention research with a quantitative approach, a total of 50 patients were included and completed the treatment protocol. Sociodemographic, anthropometric data, pain perception, pressure pain threshold and neck disability index were investigated for each patient. The treatment protocol had 8 sessions of percussive therapy, performed during 4 weeks. When analyzing the sample, it was found that the sociodemographic profile of postmenopausal women with neck pain was an average age of 52 years, living in rural areas, predominantly farmers, overweight and less than 3 years after menopause. Treatment with percussive therapy was effective in reducing the perception of neck pain, pressure pain threshold and neck disability after one month of treatment.
