Abstract

Leprosy without early detection and effective treatment can lead to irreversible complications. For this reason, this objective work through the epidemiological profile of the disease in the state of Tocantins provide subsidies for its control. A quantitative study was done by consulting the database of the Notification of Injury Information System for the period from January 2007 to December 2017. These data were transferred, tabulated and analyzed from the Ministry of Health's (MH) official notification system. There were 12227 new cases in the analyzed period. The overall annual detection rate in 2017 was 80.57 and in those younger than 15 years it was 22.67 defined as hyperemic according to MH. 90.4% of the contacts examined in the diagnosis in 2017 considered as good according to MH and 83.3% of the cure considered regular according to MH. The condition is hyperendemic with high incidence in the multibacillary form and in children under 15 years demonstrating active transmission in the community due to the high infectivity of the adult population. High number of cases with degree of incapacity demonstrating failure in early detection. Examination of the contacts, improvement of the teams in the early diagnosis, polychemotherapy are important to interrupt the chain of transmission and to prevent incapacities.
