Abstract

Burns are a common and preventable cause of injury. Their involvement can be serious, and often fatal, leading to the need for hospitalization or even death. The present study aimed to analyze the profile of hospitalized patients and the temporal trend of hospitalizations and deaths from burns and corrosions in the North. Data were collected through a database behind the DataSUS Hospital Information System (SIH) between 2015 and 2019. Data analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel 2010 and JoinPoint version 4.8.0.0. It was observed that most hospitalizations at the expense of burns and corrosions occurred in the economically active population, between 20 and 59 years old and in children under 5 years old. The highest incidence of serious injuries, which required inpatient follow-up, occurred in males, as well as deaths from burns or their complications. Despite the commitment to prevention campaigns, the North Region has shown an increase in deaths in the last 3 years with burns as the cause.
