Abstract

Malnutrition has a relationship with infectious diseases, suggesting that it can lead to damage in some aspects of the immune response, and this disorder may increase the susceptibility to infections, having been shown to be mainly related to respiratory infections. The objective was to carry out an analysis of the number of hospitalizations for malnutrition and respiratory disease in children up to 4 years of age in Brazil, in order to carry out a survey of data between 2017 and 2019 on the occurrence of these conditions by region of the federation. This is a search of articles published on SciELO, Academic Google, Virtual Health Library and data provided by DATASUS platforms. It was shown that the total number of hospitalizations for respiratory tract infections was greater than the number of hospitalizations for malnutrition in all regions of the federation and that the highest number of cases of malnutrition was found in the Northeast region. It is concluded that there is still a large occurrence of child malnutrition in Brazilian regions and that there is also a large number of hospitalizations for respiratory infections in the pediatric age group targeted by the study.
